Public Property Maintenance Request

For concerns or complaints relating to public property owned and maintained by the Village of Morton Grove, including sidewalks, roadways, street trees, and street furniture, please call the Public Works Department at 847-470-5235 or publicworks@mortongroveil.org. Some public property is owned or maintained by other taxing districts or governmental agencies. In those cases, the Village can provide guidance regarding the appropriate agency to contact and, when appropriate, assist with coordinating the matter with the responsible agency.

Parkway Maintenance: Please note that Village Code requires private property owners to maintain the area on the parkway adjacent to their private property. Failure to do so may result in a notice of violation or citation. If a private property owner fails to maintain property as required by Code, the Village may abate the violation and bill the owner for the contractor’s expenses, plus administrative fees.

Sec. 8-3-2: – DUTY TO REMOVE WEEDS AND CUT GRASS.

1. It shall be the duty of every owner and occupant, agent or person in possession or control of real estate within the Village to remove weeds or cut the turf grass on his/her property and on any parkway or right-of-way immediately adjacent to the front, rear, or side yard of such property as may be necessary so that such weeds shall not persist and turf grass shall not exceed six inches (6″) in height. In a situation where the unimproved right-of-way is adjacent to more than one property with no improved portion of the right-of-way between properties, such as an unimproved alley, each property owner shall be responsible for the portion abutting their property up to the center line of the unimproved portion of the right-of-way.
2. Weeds, when cut down, must be removed from the property or disposed of in such a manner as not to create a nuisance or hazard.
3. Turf grass or weeds allowed to grow contrary to this section, or not properly removed are hereby declared to be a nuisance.
