Adopt-A-Planter Program

The Community Relations Commission hosts the Adopt-a-Planter Program twice a year. Residents can sign up to decorate and care for the large Village planters located at the Civic Center and along Dempster Street and Waukegan Road. The program runs during the summer and winter seasons.

  • Summer Program: In the summer season, participants are provided a free assortment of flowers (starter kit) that must be picked up at a designated time and location. The starter kit must be planted immediately to ensure plants stay healthy. Participants are encouraged to add their own plants and decor to their planters. Throughout the summer, Public Works staff will water all planters. Participants are also encouraged to visit and check their planters weekly.
  • Winter Program: In the winter season, participants can adopt a planter that is pre-installed with an evergreen tree or other holiday decor. Participants are encouraged to add their own decorations, and visit and check their planters weeky.
  • Signage & Decorations: Signs may be installed in planters. However, each sign is limited to a maximum of five inches (5”) by seven inches (7”), and each planter is limited to a maximum of two (2) signs. Please securely fasten all decorations to your planter greenery or soil. Loose decorations can blow off planters and become litter and/or traffic hazards. The Village reserves the right to remove any dangerous, flammable, or offensive items. Personal items must be removed by the deadline provided to participants, or they will be discarded.

Registration is open for the Community Relations Commission’s 2026 Summer Adopt-A-Planter Program. Planters can be adopted on a first-come, first-served basis. There is no fee to participate. Plant pick-up will be held at the Morton Grove Village Hall (6101 Capulina Avenue) on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Participants must pick up their free starter kit of assorted plants during this time.

Adopt one of the planters located along Dempster Street, Waukegan Road, or the Civic Center. Planters will not be available at the Metra Station this season due to construction.
